Even though the era of cheap new cars is largely over, some automakers have managed to keep affordable options on the market.

The new 2025 Nissan Kicks starts at only $23,220, and that’s including the destination fee. AWD is available for the first time and adds between $1,500 and $1,640 to the price. Is the Nissan Kicks a good buy? Let’s find out.

Bastion of Affordability

The previous Nissan Kicks generation started at a price under $20,000 when it was new. Even though the new Nissan Kicks isn’t quite that cheap, it’s still very affordable, especially considering the sharp redesign, more quality interior, and newly optional AWD. Some new standard features on the Kicks include adaptive cruise control, LED lights, a seven-inch touchscreen, and Nissan Safety Shield 360.

The base Nissan Kicks model is the Kicks S and it’s the one with the starting price listed above. The top Kicks trim is the Kicks SR and it starts at $27,570 and goes up to $29,070 if you opt for AWD. All models can be equipped with AWD as well.

In the middle of the lineup is the SV trim and that one starts at $25,070 and gets you a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Android and Apple, a wireless phone charging pad, and 17-inch wheels. Other options you can add include a panoramic moonroof, heated front seats, and a Bose audio system.

Power and Performance

One of the many areas where the new Nissan Kicks improved over the previous generation is in the power arena. Buyers will most certainly get more kicks out of the new 2.0-liter engine that makes 141 horsepower. That’s a 19-horsepower bump over the previous Kicks. The new Kicks is a little bigger though, which might curb enthusiasm for the power upgrade.

Refreshed Interior

The interior of the new Nissan Kicks is much improved with more quality materials and more tech. Nissan’s Zero Gravity seats, known for their superior comfort, are now standard in both rows. The larger size of the Kicks means more room in the rear row. Behind the rear seats, there’s roughly 30 cubic feet of cargo room and that expands to 60 cubic feet with the rear row folded. The cargo area opening is 40.3 inches, which makes it the widest in the class.

Sharp Exterior Redesign

Compared to the previous generation, this new Nissan Kicks features a much sharper and more stylish exterior design. It now looks more like an SUV than a hatchback with a ground clearance boost of 1.4 inches to a total of 8.4 inches. In terms of size, it’s roughly an inch bigger in each direction. As mentioned above, the new Kicks can be had with 17-inch wheels as well, adding to its already striking profile.

Ultimately, the Nissan Kicks is one of the few affordable options left in the new car market. With a compact crossover design and a long list of new features, the new Kicks is better than ever. And, it’s still affordable.
